Superfast Mobile Broadband
As media consumption continues to grow, the demand for superfast broadband and wireless internet plans has increased dramatically. In response, the competition between broadband providers has developed into a significant rivalry, with companies investing in superfast and mobile broadband infrastructure in order to deliver the fastest home and wireless internet experience. In fact, utilizing a superfast broadband connection is not only critical for internet use, but for mobile phones and high definition TV as well.
Superfast broadband has also increased competition internationally, as cities compete to offer corporations the highest available bandwidth. In his State of the Union Address, President Obama implied the nation needed to double its bandwidth capacity and airwave availability by the end of the decade in order to boost the economy and facilitate job creation. Faster broadband plans such as the ones offered by TPG allow companies to work faster and more efficiently. Increasing the available airwaves helps to ensure public safety by opening up more frequencies to law enforcement, firefighters, and other health and safety entities.
The current airwave and mobile broadband plans proposed by the FCC would allow frequencies in the Block D Spectrum to be sold at auction. Major telephone and mobile broadband providers will likely bid fiercely to acquire these contracts, as they would be able to bolster the amount of accounts they service. This will provide an estimated $4 billion in funding for the FCC, money which can be used to maintain and upgrade the current public safety system. At the moment, public safety maintenance costs approximately $7 billion dollars per year and will reach upwards of $10 billion annually over the course of the decade.
If frequencies in the Block D Spectrum were to be sold to a private company, there would be an immediate boost to the mobile broadband and telephone market. The sale would allow a major retailer to sell more phonecards and prepaid cell phones as they expand their service. Furthermore, as more consumers ingest high bandwidth media through their tablets, netbooks and mobile phones, demand for superfast wireless broadband over these frequencies will rise, making the purchase of Block D attractive to both small market and major service providers. TPG internet is just one of the companies that has already made plans to expand their wireless internet service, offering superfast broadband at affordable prices. Ultimately this rivalry will drive down prices and be a boon to consumers who want high quality media and services on the go.
